Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that has been around for 6,000 years. It's really  a generic term that refers to a variety of traditions that use essential oils sometimes in combination with other alternative medical practices and spiritual beliefs. The main attraction to aromatherapy is the healing power of the essential oils. These oils are natural oils which are the pure essence of the plant.Do not confuse essential oils with perfume oils. Perfume oils contain unnatural chemicals.Unfortunately some companies that say they are selling aromatherapy products are really selling perfume oils. Always read the list of ingredients on the label to make sure you are really getting true aromatherapy products.

The essential oils used in aromatherapy have been known to reduce, and in some cases, relieve pain. For example, lavender is used to cure headaches and migraines because of it has a calming effect. It's also used as an antiseptic and to soothe minor cuts and burns. Our ancestors knew the power of essential oils extracted from plants and used them to heal many ailments. The term "aromatherapy" wasn't used until 1920 but essentially this is what they were using.

Everyone can benefit from aromatherapy. Each person can find out what works for them by researching the different oils and what they can do.There are people who use tea tree oil or clove oil as an antiseptic but others find the smell offensive. We are all different and what works for one may not work for someone else. The great part about aromatherapy is there are so many different oils that do the same thing. You should feel free to experiment until you find what works for you. Also there aren't the unattractive side effects that we hear about in some modern medicines.

There are hundreds of recipes for using aromatherapy in foot care, face care, bath care and massage. These use a combination of oils that can reduce tension and be used in circulation massage. There are even ones for wrinkled and puffy face and for vericose veins.

Besides essential oils, aromatherapy also uses scented candles and diffusers making it easier to find different ways to get the benefit of aromatherapy. These are readily available at bath and body stores, and several retailers that have areas in their store that specialize in aromatherapy products.
